(Las Vegas, NV) – Ken “The Shrink” Weitzner made it look easy with the help of Idaho’s fourth quarter cover of Washington in the first round of the 2009 Money Talks Invitational. Friday, first time player, but long-time handicapper, Paul Bovi challenges 2007 champ Nick Bogdanovich in the winner-take-all football handicapping competition.
The Shrink posted a 3-4 record while pro poker player Bill Edler stumbled with a 2-5 mark, punctuated by Idaho’s cover of Washington (-21) when the Vandals punched in the “bad beat” touchdown with :13 seconds left for a 42-23 final. If the Huskies hold on, Edler could have knocked off the defending champ with his designated best bet.
Bovi, a VegasInsider.com columnist and handicapper for PanoramaSports.com, enter his first Money Talks fray against Bogdanovich, Race and Sports Director for Northern Nevada’s Club Cal Neva. Over the past two seasons, Bogdanovich has posted a respectable 26-21-2 record in Money Talks tilts.
Look for Bovi to play totals more so than sides and lean heavily toward the NFL, where since becoming a public handicapper in 2004, he has logged a 251-201 record against the spread as documented on VegasInsider.com.
The unique “Money Talks” is the largest event of its kind in Nevada and features well-known handicappers who put up $5,000 each in the bracketed tournament...one loss and you’re done. The $80,000 prize will be determined in the finals scheduled for Dec. 18.
Match winners are determined by the best record on seven college and/or pro picks against the spread or totals. A “best-bet” designated among each player’s picks will settle any ties. Full brackets and the season’s picks can be seen at www.leroys.com, click on contests
The tournament will be broadcast each Friday from 3 to 4 p.m. on Leroy’s Sports Hour, hosted by John Kelly, a 20-year veteran of Las Vegas sports radio. Pete & Shorty’s Book and Bar inside Hooters Casino Hotel 115 E. Tropicana (across for the MGM) is the new venue and the show can be heard on KLAV 1230-AM in Las Vegas and podcast at www.leroys.com.
