After
a triumphant summer European tour, Metallica will return to rock North
America this fall for the second leg of their sold-out World Magnetic
Tour. The multi-platinum hard-rock band will criss-cross the
U.S. and Canada from September 14th through December 12th in support of
their platinum-selling tenth studio album, Death Magnetic, which
debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard album chart in September 2008 and won
2009 Grammy Awards for Best Metal Performance (for the track "My
Apocalypse") and Best Recording
Package.
The fall leg will include
Metallica’s first Las Vegas date in five years. The band will
play Mandalay Bay Events Center on Saturday, December 5.
Tickets go on sale Saturday, April 4 at 10
AM.
Metallica launched their first proper
tour of the United States and Canada in four years in October 2008 to
rapturous reviews. The Los Angeles Times raved that the two-hour set
"unleashed the powerful exchange of energies that defines Metallica's
purpose and its appeal," while the New York Post noted that "James
Hetfield and drummer Lars Ulrich destroyed any notion that their old
bones are ready for the museum by sticking to the three V's of metal
music: volume, velocity, and virtuosity."
Metallica's first studio album since
2003's multi-platinum St. Anger, Death Magnetic has sold nearly 1.7
million copies in the U.S. and spawned three singles, "The Day That
Never Comes," "My Apocalypse," and the current "Cyanide."
In other Metallica news, Activision
released the highly anticipated video game Guitar Hero Metallica,
featuring 28 songs from the band's nearly 30-year career,
yesterday. In addition, Metallica will be inducted into the
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, which honors legendary rock and
roll performers, in a ceremony to take place in Cleveland on Saturday,
April 4th.
